When first immersed in democratic free schooling, children and adults who are unfamiliar with this approach to learning go through an initial phase of adjustment. It takes time to understand the difference between liberty and license, to discover one's own direction and trust in one's ability to pursue it, and to bear the burden of being responsible for oneself and responsible to the community which expects so much. Patience and courage are required. But given a chance to become acclimated to this learning environment, nearly every child can be a self-directed learner. Please join us.
